Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is embarking on a massive initiative with state-owned telecommunications giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL). This venture, valued at Rs 15,000 crore, involves the establishment of large data centers across four key regions of India.
Indigenous Network Solutions Provider
As part of the deal, TCS, along with the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), will undertake 38 deployments of varying capacities within BSNL premises across all telecom circles. This marks a pioneering move, positioning TCS as the first indigenous network solutions provider in the country.
Complex Deployments on the Horizon
N Ganapathy Subramaniam, TCS COO, revealed the intricacies of the project, highlighting the installation of two large data centers—primary and disaster recovery servers—in each of the four zones. Additionally, 30 data centers will be deployed in each telecom circle, tailored to the specific load requirements of the region. According to The Economic Times report, the ambitious timeline aims for completion by June, with TCS collaborating closely with hardware supply partners to ensure seamless implementation.
TCS’ Foray into 4G and 5G Infrastructure
Last year, TCS, in collaboration with ITI Ltd, secured a significant advance purchase order worth Rs 19,000 crore from BSNL to establish 100,000 4G sites. The consortium, spearheaded by TCS, includes indigenous telecom equipment manufacturer Tejas Networks and C-DOT. This strategic move not only marks TCS’ entry into the modern 4G and 5G communications infrastructure segment but also positions it as a formidable contender against global rivals such as Ericsson, Nokia, and Huawei.
