The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the comprehensive schedule for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, set to unfold across seven phases starting from April 19. The culmination of this democratic exercise will see the counting of votes on June 4, encompassing various by-elections, assembly elections, and the general elections.
Of notable significance is Phase 5 of the electoral process, scheduled for May 20, which will witness the Lok Sabha elections taking place in Mumbai. The bustling metropolis and its surrounding areas, constituting six Lok Sabha seats, namely Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South-Central, and Mumbai South, will be at the forefront. Moreover, constituencies such as Thane, Kalyan, and Palghar will also participate in the electoral process on the same day.
In preceding general elections, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) had declared trading holidays on polling days and money markets remaining closed to facilitate the electoral process. Although official confirmation from the stock exchanges is yet to be announced, market observers widely anticipate a similar trading holiday tradition to be observed during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, aligning with past practices established in the 2014 and 2019 general elections. Based on past data, it’s anticipated that the stock market will be closed on May 20, 2024, due to the voting in Mumbai.
Stock Market Holidays In March
The upcoming stock market holidays is scheduled for March 25, on the occasion of Holi and March 29 for Good Friday.
Stock Market Holidays In April
In April, the stock market will observe two more holidays. On April 11, 2024, trading will closed in observance of Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan Eid), followed by another closure on April 17, 2024, on the occasion of Shri Ram Navmi.
