Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has initiated its recruitment process for fresh graduates in the IT and business outsourcing sectors, signaling optimism amid a challenging economic landscape. With the IT industry facing a slowdown in the current fiscal year, TCS is anticipating a resurgence in growth by the second half of the fiscal year 2025.

The company has announced its annual TCS National Qualifier Test (NQT), targeting students graduating in 2024. This test will serve as a gateway for engineering and computer science graduates to apply for entry-level positions in TCS, including roles in Ninja and Digital fresher hiring. The application deadline for the test is April 10, with the tests scheduled for April 26. Additionally, TCS is also recruiting for its Business Processing Specialists (BPS) roles, welcoming graduates from arts, commerce, and science backgrounds graduating in 2024.

According to The Economic Times report, TCS traditionally offers competitive annual salary packages for fresh graduates, ranging from Rs 3-4 lakh for undergraduates to Rs 11-12 lakh for postgraduate candidates. The company seeks candidates with academic degrees in various disciplines, including engineering, computer applications, and science, from recognized universities or colleges.

While the exact number of hires remains undisclosed, it is anticipated that fresher hiring at TCS may be slower compared to previous years due to the industry-wide slowdown and uncertainties in the global market. Both TCS and Infosys have been reported to be conducting smaller recruitment drives focused on hiring junior and mid-level talent with specific technology skills.

Despite the challenges, there are signs of optimism within the IT industry, as major software services firms are showing an uptick in hiring mandates. Staffing firms project a potential increase in hiring by 7-8% in the second half of the year compared to the previous year.

The report added that the IT giant TCS, India’s largest software services firm, witnessed a reduction in its headcount by 10,669 over four quarters till December, bringing the total number of employees to 603,305 at the end of the third quarter.
