SpiceJet announced the resumption of flight operations to Pakyong airport in Sikkim from both Kolkata and Delhi, along with the introduction of non-stop flights between Hyderabad and Ayodhya. These strategic expansions aim to enhance connectivity and cater to the increasing demand for air travel, particularly during the upcoming peak travel season.

Expanding Connectivity to Ayodhya and Pakyong

Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer of SpiceJet, expressed satisfaction with the expanded connectivity to Ayodhya and Pakyong. He emphasized the airline’s commitment to meeting passenger demand and enhancing accessibility to key destinations. Maharshi noted SpiceJet’s readiness to introduce new routes and reinstate services on essential ones, leveraging its expanding fleet to facilitate seamless travel experiences for passengers.

Resumption of Flight Services to Pakyong Airport

Flight services to Pakyong airport resumed on March 31, aiming to capitalize on the high tourist influx expected during the summer season. SpiceJet’s current schedule includes daily flights from Kolkata and five-day-a-week operations from Delhi to Pakyong. The schedule is designed to accommodate passenger preferences and optimize travel convenience.

Operational Details of Pakyong Flights

The flights from Kolkata to Pakyong are scheduled to depart daily at 8:05 am, with return flights departing Pakyong at 10:30 am. Similarly, flights from Delhi will depart at 9:45 am, with return flights departing Pakyong at 1:10 pm. These timings are strategically planned to ensure efficient travel and maximize passenger comfort.

Flights Operating at Full Capacity

B T Pote, the officiating airport director at Pakyong airport, highlighted that all flights have been operating at full capacity since the resumption. He attributed this success to favorable weather conditions and the airport’s readiness to handle flights, even during adverse weather situations such as monsoons. Pote also emphasized the excellent road connectivity to the airport, facilitating hassle-free travel for tourists from various parts of the state and neighboring areas.

Background: Suspension of Flight Services at Pakyong Airport

Flight services at Pakyong airport were suspended approximately six months ago due to operational issues. Despite SpiceJet’s initiation of flight operations to Pakyong in 2018, services have been sporadic due to various operational challenges, including visibility concerns associated with the airport’s tabletop runway.
